Tell us about your studio practice?

My studio practice is essentially a chaotic organism. To me, it's a sanctuary where I can go to create big messes and try and channel it all into weirdly satisfying results. I paint with acrylics and inks, or anything that dries quickly. I like to cut into the things i'm working on and move things around and glue it back together in different arrangements. Each project turns into a lengthy undertaking. I have a rule to try and not waste any material or substance that comes into/out of my studio. I keep all my scraps and never completely destroy anything. More often than not, it's the scraps/detritus from past projects that spark the next project. It just keeps feeding itself.

What do you listen to in the studio?

Lately, I can't get enough country. But more often than not, I enjoy silence. Even if the music is playing, I can get so zoned out and wonā€™t hear anything except the music/voices in my head anyway.

Tell us about your first experience making art.

I don't know if this is the first experience I had, but it's one that always makes me laugh. In middle school, during class, I thought it would be fun to draw a naked chick.  Just as I finished it - proud of my accomplishment - I realized the teacher was standing behind me and snatched the drawing off my desk. She seemed really mad. I denied it was mine and blamed it on my friend sitting next to me. He got in trouble and I did not.

What projects do you have coming up?

At the moment, I am working on a painting titled ā€œThe Pinky Promiseā€. This is the 8th painting in a series I've been working on since 2020. I am really excited about it.

Aside from that, I have been slowly/periodically working on a graphic novel since 2016 called ā€œA holeā€. I'm getting close to completing it. My aim is to eventually reproduce it into a zine/ booklet/ book/thing with multiple copies. Essentially, it's about a void, and a character named A who stumbles across a hole, and eventually somersaults into it, embarking on a hole journey.
